I'm a Survivor!

This evening I had the opportunity to attend the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" walk. It's a great event that not only raises funds to aid in cancer research, but is also a inspiring tribute to honor and remember those affected by cancer.

I was so proud to participate in this event as a CANCER SURVIVOR in the first lap of the walk. I walked with Jared and my Mom and with many other survivors and their caregivers. It was an awesome experience and I was so very moved as we walked around the stadium track. As we made our way around, there were supporters lining the way with signs and loud cheers. Some even had tears in their eyes. It warmed my heart to be reminded of how there are so many wonderful people that are so truly passionate about helping others.

I am so grateful that God has blessed me so richly and, through my life, has enabled me to see the world in a different way. I know that He will continue to bless me and I pray that I would be able to pass it on to others.

Heather

Heather recently discovered that she has a brain tumor and she is currently awaiting consulation at the Mayo clinic. She is the mother of 3 and is only 32 years old.

Please keep her in your prayers.

Roadtrip Explosion!

Ok, I have to share this story with you. It has been on my mind the past few days and is a great reminder to me to take life in strides and to realize the humor in every situation...

This past weekend, Jared and I took a quick roadtrip with our friend, Ryan. We had tickets to see a band called Nickel Creek perform Saturday night in Helotes, a town just west of San Antonio.

Jared and I went to pick up Ryan Saturday morning and we decided to go have a sit down breakfast before hitting the road. Breakfast was good, but Jared found himself with a bit of an upset stomach as we were leaving the restaurant. We drove across the street to a Walgreens to acquire some pink stuff to aid Jared during the 4+ hour drive.

Now let me take this opportunity to tell you something about me. There are a few things that I strongly dislike. These things range from bacon (which I hate the most) to bitter medicine to onions. Pepto Bismol is one of these things and I would put it somewhere near the bacon end of the spectrum. I really don't like the taste or the smell of it. Ick!

Well, Ryan and I sat in the car and became engrossed in conversation while Jared went into the pharmacy. We continued talking as Jared got back in the car and the conversation went on as Jared removed the medicine from the box and started to peel off the seals from the bottle. I continued telling Ryan a story when Jared started to shake up the Pepto before opening it up. (As a sidenote, I am wondering if this stuff even actually needs to be shaken before one takes it). On the upswing of Jared's "shake," the lid flew off and about 2/3 of the contents of the bottle was suddenly on me, on Ryan, on the car, in my purse, on Jared, on my cellphone, and even on the windshield of our car!
I immediately had to roll down the window to keep from gagging at the smell of this and the feeling of being covered in sticky pink pepto goo. Ryan was laughing his head off. Jared was still trying to figure out what exactly had happened. The more time that passes, the funnier this all gets. We are still finding bits of pink everywhere and laughing at our Pepto explosion.
This has helped me to remember that it is much better to laugh at these things than to get upset or worked up about them. I will admit that my initial response to being covered in Pepto was one of anger and annoyance, but things got better once I started to see the humor in it all. I felt much better when I was laughing about it, than when I was upset about it.
I hope that the next time something like this happens (and it will, as Jared is just a tad bit clumsy, God love him) I will be able to see the humor in the situation and not let frustration get the better of me.
And next time we buy the chewable pills.
Love&blessings,
Heather

Howdy!

I have a real blog now! I will try to update it as often as possible, so be sure to check in now and then.

Jared and I are enjoying being new Rio Grande Valley residents. We have been living with my parents since January, awaiting the finalization of our house sale. We are so fortunate to have a place to stay while we are in between homes. We hope to have sold our house in San Angelo and be moved into one here in Mission sometime in May, God willing.

Be sure to check back in for updates, stories, words, etc.

Love & blessings,
Heather
