Hello!
It has been quite a while since I have written and quite a bit has transpired! First and foremost, I had my three-month checkup at MD Anderson today and I got a good report. All my numbers look good and I am still cancer-free!
Let me fill in some other blanks for you…
…It was the middle of November when I got the news that I was cancer-free. This news made for an awesome Thanksgiving! We spent our “turkey day” with Jared’s family and had two thanksgiving meals—one in Winters and one in Ballinger. We had so much to be thankful for and I will remember this Thanksgiving as one of the best ever.
…I got my port removed in early December. It was a fairly simple procedure and I was able to bounce back very quickly. The day I got my port removed, I went to the hospital with just a scarf on my head and no wig or hair. This was the first time that I had been out in public without my “disguise.” It felt odd, but I felt safe enough with so many other cancer patients around.
…Our Christmas was also very memorable. We had a full house of family from all over the nation and it was so special!
…After Christmas, Jared and I made the decision to move to the Rio Grande Valley. It was a difficult decision to leave our friends and family in San Angelo, but we really felt like this was the right thing for us. Jared will have great opportunities in real estate/mortgage lending and I was offered a wonderful job at Spikes Ford in Mission. I started my job on January 15th and I love it! Jared has been back and forth between San Angelo and the Valley and is trying to get our house sold. He listed it on Friday and we got a good offer within 48 hours! Can you believe it?? We are currently residing at “Casa Broughton” (my parents), but will start our house-hunt soon and find a place to live here.
And now
...My hair is coming back! I even have eyelashes and eyebrows! For those of you who have not seen me lately, I have lost the wigs and head coverings. It was a difficult thing to do, but I feel better without them. It is funny to me that many people at work just thought that I got a haircut.
…I am feeling better and better every day. My body is still quite tired, but I am able to pace myself to keep from getting worn out.
I used to talk about how I couldn’t wait to be on the other side of this. I am here now and I’m relieved and also surprised about what I have been able to handle. I am so grateful for your love, support and prayers during the past nine months. I have felt you all behind me at every moment and I am in awe of what wonderful friends and family God has put in my life. My story is not over. I will continue to write, probably at another site. I will let you know where when I figure that out.
As always, thanks for marching along with me through this journey!
Love & blessings,
Heather
